Qatar

I got to Dubai on last Thursday.

On Friday we flew to Saudi Arabia for a Saturday meeting.

On Sunday we stayed in town to visit local clients

On Monday we flew to Qatar to meet with QP (Qatar Petroleum).

It was an uneventful trip that I believe will bear fruit over the next year.

But how DO you pronounce Qatar, anyway?

  1. I used to say it rhyming with "guitar" but now I rhyme it with "rotter."

How do they say it there?

  2. It seems closer to "cutter" with no accent on the first syllable.

I don't think our western tongues can really get around this word.

When I was going through Saudi Arabian immigration, I could not understand half of what the guy said to me, what with all the glottal stops and gutturals.
